Ok so this one is gonna be a long one.
I just returned after nearly 3 weeks at home in Iowa. I pulled my old engine and replaced it with the new one.
Ran great...had a killer idle. and it was pretty fast too. Then the day before i left to come back to japan,
we took the camaro to a dyno to see how it was doing...Run one....190hp, 197tq. Needless to say i was dumbfounded.
how does an expected 410rwhp come out to 190rwhp? Well, problem one. vacuum modulated transmission,
with a huge cam making almost no vacuum. Problem two. on the dyno. almost done with the run, at about 5200rpm,
and at almost 110mph, something happened. not for sure yet exactly what happened. all i know is that
i was surrounded by smoke, and when i stepped out of the car i stepped in oil. yukky oil to be exact.
My dad pulled part of the engine and took some pictures for me.
Valve Cover 1....yuk.

Valve Cover and dipstick.....wtf?

Oil Pan 1....yikes.

Oil Pan 2

Rocker Arms

Oil...yuk.

Needless to say...i'm screwed. Not only am i broke...but i got a broke dick camaro. who knows what kind
of damage was done on the inside. dad also said that you can hear rattling inside the oil pan.
Hmm..wonder what that could be. It's all speculation as to what happened at this point, we will know for sure
on monday or tuesday when dad gets the engine pulled. I dunno which is worse, the fact that my engine blew
Or the fact that my dad is stuck doing the work while i am in japan. Needless to say, i am putting in for
a transfer off this hunk of junk. I'm done. fuck it. fuck it all.

Well, I have some bad news...and yet I have some good news. Good news...My new shortblock is going
to be completed and assembled on Monday. Which means that my dad will have it back in his possession.
The bad news...total cost of $850. just to get it back. yikes. Boring, honing, decking, magnaflux, balance,
you name it, they just about did it. Polish the crank, hone the crank...etc...etc...etc...i'll post
up complete details on what was done, once i get a receipt...lol.Now i have to order a new oil pan.
I think i'm going to go with a Milodon 7qt low profile pan. Summit sells them for about 160 bux.
I was going to get a Proform chrome pan, but they are backordered...*sad face* Oh well...more later!

Wow. Just Wow. The camaro's front end looks so much cleaner now. The front bumper is installed
and the entire car has been buffed, and the fenders have been rolled. Boy it looks good. Once I get
some time and a decent internet connection, I will post up some pics! But boy does it look nice!
Now I just have to wait for an engine! The guy was back to work last week and should have it done
sometime this week. We were quoted in the range of $400 for boring, magnafluxing, honing, decking,
balancing, etc etc. Hopefully it will be a bit cheaper, but i guess we'll find out for sure later!

Dad took the rest of the parts(rotating assembly) over to the shop...come to find out the guy who
was doing the work on the block...decided to pick up his old sheep dog...and threw his back out...
So the engine is on hold pending his return to work...oh well. we got a couple months to get this
sucker put together before I head home on leave. I just hope dad gets it put together before i get
home. I think he will. The camaro goes into the body shop on thursday to have the newly painted
front bumper cover installed. And to have the entire body buffed and waxed. :D I can't wait...
I will be sure to post up some pics of my baby when it comes back gleaming!

The engine block is now at the machine shop, along with the crank. Dad is going to take the
rods and pistons in to them first thing wednesday, so that the assembly can be balanced.
The block and balancing should be done within a week. So we should have it back by monday.
My car goes in to the paint shop next week to get the new front bumper painted and installed,
and to get the entire car buffed.

Well, my dad finally got my 4 LT1 Block tore down. Looks like the crank might need to be turned
Everything else looked good. He is going to take it next door to the machine shop and have
the block and crank and such magnafluxed and checked out. I can't freakin wait until the sucker
gets put in my camaro. It's gonna be great! And it's gonna be faster than 95% of the cars in my
town. YEAH! lol.

YAY! Finally received the last item in the mail that is required for my rebuild! WOO!
Now, comes the hard part...convincing my dad to tear down the block so he can get it to the shop
to get rebuilt while I am stuck over here in Japan. That might prove difficult. ...not really.
He started tearing into it earlier today. Hopefully he gets it all taken apart tomorrow...:D
Once he gets that done he will take the block and the rotating assembly to the machine shop to
get bored over .030 and balanced. :D I dunno how much THAT is gonna cost...lol. Hopefully not too
much. I ain't got too much more money. lol.
WISH ME LUCK!!! lol.
